Ombudsman Program

The Navy Family Ombudsman Program strengthens communication between command leadership and Navy families. Ombudsmen provide information, resources, and support to help families stay informed and connected throughout the demands of military life.

Ombudsman Code of Ethics

Ombudsmen follow a strict Code of Ethics to maintain trust and professionalism:

  • Maintain confidentiality within the command’s need-to-know guidelines
  • Support the command’s mission
  • Work within the chain of command
  • Uphold professionalism at all times

Reportable Information

Certain situations must be reported to the Commanding Officer and appropriate Navy or state agencies:

  • Suspected or known child abuse or neglect
  • Alleged domestic abuse
  • Potential violence or life-threatening situations
  • Suicidal risk or concerns
  • Alleged sexual assault

Training

Ombudsman Basic Training (OBT) is required for all Ombudsmen and is offered in-person at NAWS China Lake or online through the eOBT format. Advanced trainings and monthly Hot Topic webinars are also available.
